Today I was up at the allotment by myself; mainly to make sure that our turnips were okay, which they were. On the spur of the moment I decided to bring forward the creation of a pond in what will be our wildlife area.

It’s a small pond, about 3 feet wide and about 4-5 foot long, I’ve put in plenty of stones and some sticks to help wildlife get in and out of the pond. I’ve also stacked up a lot of the old stems from the very woody perpetual kale that was all over the allotment. I’m hoping this will help creatures create homes near the pond. Having seen frogs, lizards and slow worms around the allotment I suspect it will be inhabited soon.
